The
Greek empire was not really a unified empire it was a bunch of city-states with
their own navy, army and other institutions. In fact these city-states actually
fought each other many times. The
rise an fall of the Greek empire was formed by many heroic, yet tragic, battles including the battle at marathon,The destruction of the persian fleet at Salamis, and the
victory at Plataea which brought an end to the persian empires attempts to
conquer Greece.To
start us off, the history of the Greek empire.
“The
history of ancient Greece can be divided up into three different eras. There was
the period of antiquity, where the Greeks developed as a people, the classical
era, known for it’s philosophers and culture, and the Hellenistic age. The
Hellenistic era began after Phillip conquered ancient Greece. His next step
would be to bring the Greek world together in order to conquer their arch-enemy,
the Persians”.(The
fall of ancient Greece) The
Greek empire advanced in the period of antiquity where the Greeks developed and
grew as a civilization ,but they also had times where there was war, where the
Greek tried to conquer their enemies the persians. Also "The
origins of Greece are shrouded in mystery and date back to the time of Abraham,
18th century BCE, or perhaps even earlier”.(The
Greek empire)
The Greek empire rose up in the 18th century BCE in current day greece where
they grew as people and as a civilization. Finally
”That
drive and unity, however, was not to last. After the Persian threat was
nullified, Sparta and Athens started to fight. For more than 25 years, the
Peloponnesian Wars tore the city-states apart, weakening them”.(The
fall of ancient Greece). After
Greece conquered their biggest enemy (Persians) the greek city-states Athens and
Sparta went to war. This was called the peloponnesian war. After the war
greek city-states were torn up and weakened which lead to the fall of the Greek
empire. Clearly,
the Greek empire was built up in peace where they grew as an empire and brought
down by war.
